Cruz de Motupe

Cruz de Motupe is a settlement on the edge of the city of Lima Peru, where the majority of people have come from the provinces in search of a better education and future for their children. The women do the work back home while they look after the children and come back once the product is finished.

They made all the wristbands sold for World Youth Day at Mary MacKillop Place. They also make hats, gloves, hair-bands and beautiful Christmas tree skirts

The women meet in the bell tower of the church to make their goods. The dry barren hills that surround Motupe represent the daily struggles the women face. The group is led by Sr Clare Conaglen

Their label has the church bell tower and reads: The sale of this article enables this woman and her family to live with dignity. Lovingly handmade in Motupe, Lima.
