Hats & Gloves

Some of these hats are machine knitted at the Casabet workshop in Lima. Others are made in Pitomarca, high in the Andes, where women often take the wool and knit and embroider in their homes until they return with the finished items. The beautifully soft and warm alpaca, a native animal to Peru, which has been farmed by the Andean peoples for 1000s of years. The geometric patterns and motifs of Cats, Birds and Alpacas are typical examples of patterns used by Peruvians since Incan times. Although the patterns are similar, no two items are ever the same, as each knitter has their own tension and distinctive style.
